Presentation from the Nottingham Hospitals Charity for Cystic Fibrosis

Held at the Vale of Belvoir Inn on 14th September 2011, the Lions had a presentation by guest speaker Caroline Kew, the community and events fundraiser from the Nottingham City Hospital. Caroline was accompanied by Andy, a long-term Cystic Fibrosis sufferer. The Charity are currently seeking to raise funds for proposed new CF unit at the City Hospital site. The new unit will make a huge difference to CF patients who are often isolated from other patients. CF is the UK's most common life-threatening inherited disease, with 1 in 25 people carrying the gene. The average age of survival is 38 years. Sufferers cope with lungs clogging up, liver failure, pancreas failure and cannot often do the things normal people do due to the debilitating nature of the disease.

In remembrance - LION WILLIAM (Bill) BROWN (91) – MJF

It is with much sadness that the Vale of Belvoir Lions Club announces the passing of Lion William (Bill) Brown. Lion Bill, a life member and charter member and secretary of the club since 1979, died after a very short illness. He had also been a member of Lions whilst living and working in Belfast and Carlisle.

Bill epitomised all that is good about human nature – he was a 'gentleman' in the truest of senses. He always had time to speak, was patient & encouraging and always put the needs of others first. A genuine and thoughtful family man he was a loyal lion who was widely respected by those who were fortunate to know him. Despite the failing years Bill had an unswerving strength of character and would support the club in its varied activities. He regularly attended business meetings where his astute mind and wise counsel were always welcome. He was President of the club in 80/81 and again in 94/95 and held other positions during and since those intervening years with a special recognition to an extended tenure as Treasurer. The club send their heartfelt sympathies to Bill’s family especially Tim and Jackie.
