Millionaire's Evening on behalf of Nottinghamsire Kidney Units' Appeal
Venue: Bottesford VC Hall on 5th March 2011

Card Games, Roulette Wheels and Millionaire's!

Last year The Vale of Belvoir Lions were approached by the Nottinghamshire Kidney Units’ Appeal to ask if they would host a 'Millionaire's Casino Evening' with the aim of raising much needed funds for the appeal.

The Nottinghamshire Kidney Units’ Appeal is a partnership between Kidney Research UK and the Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust to improve the care and support for local kidney patients. You can read more here on their website.

Work started early to prepare the VC Hall into a gaming hall, with no less than seven casino games being hosted by the Lions! These consisted of Roulette, Blackjack (2 tables), Joker 7, Crown and Anchor, Caribbean Stud Poker and Card Racing.

The doors opened to the public at 7:30pm, with the Master of Ceremonies Lion Clive opening the gaming tables for around 8:00pm. The 'punters' were soon keen to take their places at the tables, and the bets were on! The tables were continually busy up to the interval when the most magnificent buffet was laid on by the Kidney Units' Appeal team. Everyone including the Lions enjoyed a break, during which a game of 'Heads and Tails' was run by Lion John for the prize of a bottle of scotch, followed by a raffle ticket draw for the first prize of a Holiday in Porto Banus, Marbella! What a great first prize!

After the interval, the gaming tables were re-opened for business, all the punters working towards winning the most amount of money for a prize at the end of the evening. Big bets were placed, risky moves were made but fun was had by all.

We had two winners, Kathryn Hinscliff-Smith the winning Lady and Martin Cox the winning Gent, however, Kathryn had done exceptionally well at Joker 7, coming away with winnings way in excess of £220 million Bottesford pounds!!! Well done to the winners.

Overall the evening was a great success, and enjoyed by everyone including all the hard working teams of people who organised and ran it! The total raised was a staggering £1,292!!

The Lions wish to thank The Nottinghamshire Kidney Units' Appeal for such a wonderful event, and are looking forward to the next one already.

Comment from Colin Southgate at the Appeal - "We had a great night and I thought there was a nice "buzz" around the room, suiting everyone there. PLEASE thank all your team of Lions who did such a fabulous job, there is no way we could have carried this off without you."
