Santa and his Sleigh around the Vale of Belvoir Villages
Venue: Various village locations from 9th December to 21st December 2010

The Lions always have a special treat in store for the children of the Vale of Belvoir at Christmas time.

They enlist the help of Santa and his Sleigh along with many of his helpers to travel around the local villages, and bring a smile to the faces of all that first hear, then see him!

Santa is always happy to have a little chat with the children to see what they would like for christmas, and then offer them a treat from his goodie bag.

Santa's helpers also serve another purpose, by conducting door to door collections for the Dove Cottage Hospice and other Local Charities (still to be decided upon).

The route this year was as follows;

Thu, 9th December (ASDA Grantham) 1500-2100
Fri, 10th December 1800-2030 Langar / Barnstone
Sat, 11th December 1700-2030 Whatton / Orston
Sun, 12th December 1700-2030 Redmile / Barkestone / Plungar
Tue, 14th December 1800-2030 Aslockton
Wed, 15th December 1800-2030 Bingham - Moot
Thu, 16th December 1800-2030 Harby
Fri, 17th December 1800-2030 Bingham - Tree
Sat, 18th December 1700-2030 Bottesford - West
Mon, 20th December 1800-2030 Bottesford - Centre
Tue, 21st December 1800-2030 Bottesford - East / Eastthorpe / Muston

The weather was fierce this year, with snow lying around and sub-zero temperatures during collection times, but this did not deter the helpers nor the people that came out to see Santa and his Sleigh. The generosity of everyone this year has made this the most successful collection the Lions have ever made at Christmas. The total raised for charity was in excess of £4,000, which considering the general doom and gloom around, certainly paints a very different picture!

Many many thanks to all those that donated so generously and also to all those that helped with the co-ordination, arrangements and collections this year. Here's looking forward to the next years Sleigh run!
